ESD Chairs

( number of products: 5 )

ESD (antistatic) chairs are specialist seats that drain electrostatic charge from the operator's body to the floor, compliant with EN 61340. They protect sensitive electronic components from damage caused by invisible electrostatic discharges (ESD).

Applications: PCB assembly, SMD soldering, testing of electronic components, equipment servicing and work in measurement laboratories. The range includes the ERGO-ESD series (models W1–W4) and PROXY-ESD (W1–W3). Lead time 15–25 working days.

ESD Chairs — Full ESD Protection for the EPA Zone

An ESD chair (Electrostatic Discharge) is a work chair that drains electrostatic charge from the worker's body to earth. It is required in environments where an ESD discharge can damage electronics (microprocessors, integrated circuits, PCBs) or pose an ignition risk (ATEX zones). Industry standard: EN 61340-5-1 and ANSI/ESD S20.20.

ESD chairs are mandatory equipment in: PCB (printed circuit board) production, semiconductor manufacturing, electronic component warehouses, electronics repair centres, measurement laboratories, cleanrooms, EPA (ESD Protected Area) zones and ATEX zones with an explosion risk.

ERGO-ESD and PROXY-ESD series in our range

  • ERGO-ESD — chair with an ergonomic lumbar backrest, height adjustment 420–550 mm, adjustable lumbar support, ideal for long 8-hour PCB assembly shifts
  • PROXY-ESD — a more compact chair with a simpler backrest at a lower price — for workstations with shorter working times or a larger number of staff
  • ESD stools — backless, for dynamic work in the EPA (quality control, short tasks)
  • ESD high stools — mid-height, for assembly tables of 1000–1100 mm

Who it is for — industries requiring ESD

  • PCB and SMD production — printed circuit board assembly, BGA soldering, AOI optical inspection
  • Semiconductor manufacturing — wafer fab, packaging, chip testing
  • Electronics servicing — repair of phones, computers, meters and medical devices
  • Electronic component warehouses — packing/unpacking BGA, FPGA
  • Measurement laboratories — precision meters, sensitive electronic equipment
  • ATEX zones — chemical production, paint shops, solvent stores
  • Cleanroom — pharmaceutical and medical production, microelectronics

FAQ

What does a resistance of 10⁶–10⁹ Ω mean?
It is the surface resistance range of dissipative materials (those that dissipate charge). Below 10⁵ Ω → dangerously conductive. Above 10¹⁰ Ω → an insulator (accumulates charge). The 10⁶–10⁹ range is ideal: slow, safe discharge to earth.

Does the floor have to be ESD for the chair to work?
Yes. An ESD chair drains charge to the floor — if the floor is an insulator (ordinary tiles, parquet), the charge has nowhere to go. An ESD floor is required: conductive vinyl, concrete with a graphite additive, antistatic floor paint, or an ESD mat. Chair + floor + wrist strap = a complete ESD system.

Do ESD chairs need regular testing?
Yes. EN 61340-5-1 requires periodic resistance measurements (usually once a year) to check that the material has not lost its properties after years of use. We supply a measurement procedure or carry out measurements on request.

How long does an ESD chair last?
At 8 hours a day: 5–8 years with ESD properties retained. After that period a resistance measurement is recommended — if it exceeds 10⁹ Ω, the seat or the whole chair must be replaced. The steel construction (base, column) lasts 10+ years.

Do you provide certificates for tenders?
Yes. Every ESD chair has an EN 61340-5-1 certificate of conformity + a TÜV certificate for the base + a hygiene certificate for the PUR. Full sets of documents for tender documentation are issued on request.
